MacGregor's Message 11/10/2015

Dear parents,

On behalf of the students, staff, administration and Board of Education of Howell Public Schools I would like to extend a sincere thank you to each of you who supported the Howell Public Schools technology bond proposal and the Livingston Educational Service Agency special education millage restoration on Tuesday. With the passage of the technology bond, our district will be able to make much-need upgrades to our instructional technology. These upgrades will provide new teaching and learning tools to our teachers and students that will help engage all students and ensure that our students are graduating college, career and culture ready.
The passage of the LESA millage will reduce Howell’s special education funding shortfall by half, from approximately $4 million to $2 million. This will free up approximately $2 million annually from our general fund that we can apply to our established list of district needs.

As our district continues with the strategic planning process, our facilitators from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) have scheduled a community input session on Wednesday, November 11, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in our boardroom. This is an opportunity for you to provided input on what you feel the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of Howell Public Schools are. If you cannot attend, please consider completing our stakeholder survey at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HowellSP2015. Your feedback is critical in the development of a focused, aligned, and sustainable strategic plan.

Be sure to mark your calendars for these two upcoming performing arts events. The first is the annual Parker Middle School Choir Madrigal Dinner on Friday, November 13. A Madrigal Dinner is a modern version of the Renaissance feasts held throughout England during the 16
th century. Parker’s Madrigal Dinner will feature elaborate costumes, music, acting and a feast prepared by Howell High School’s student-run Highlander Restaurant. For more information on the Madrigal Dinner please contact the Parker Middle School main office. The second event is Howell High School’s fall musical. This year’s musical is Cinderella. The musical will be presented November 19, 20, 21 and 22 in the Howell High School auditorium. For more information on this year’s musical please contact the Howell High School main office. We are very lucky to have such a strong performing arts program at all levels and I know that both of these events will be a hit.

Lastly, don’t forget to submit your nominations for Howell Public Schools Support and Service Person of the Year.  Nominations must be received by Friday, November 13 at 4 p.m. The nomination form can be found at
