MacGregor's Message 5/26/17

Dear Parents,

Last Thursday, Howell High School held its first Decision Day Celebration. Decision Day was an opportunity to honor the Class of 2017 for their post-secondary plans. It was incredible to watch the seniors as they walked around the football field holding signs representing their future plans. I am very proud to share that we have students who will be attending Harvard, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, The University of Alabama and the Culinary Institute of America, just to name a few. You can read more about Decision Day at https://goo.gl/LAcnDE.

Please remember that there is no school on Monday, May 28 as we celebrate Memorial Day. The high school marching band and Air Force JRTOC cadets will be participating in the Howell Memorial Day Parade which begins at 10 a.m. at the Howell Carnegie Library and heads east on Grand River to Bernard Street and then up to Lakeview Cemetery. Following the parade, there will be a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives while serving in the armed forces.

Once again the district has partnered with The Salvation Army of Livingston County to be a host site for the Summer Lunch Bunch program. This great program provides free, healthy meals to students over the summer months. This year, we will host the Summer Lunch Bunch at Southwest Elementary every Thursday beginning June 16. Southwest will serve as a drop-in location, so there is no need to preregister. To learn more about the Summer Lunch Bunch program, please visit https://goo.gl/vdf5yh.

Earlier this week Hutchings third-grade students applied their math skills to the game of baseball during Tigers’ Math Day. Last week Howell High School partnered with LOC Federal Credit Union to host a Teen Financial Reality Fair. Recently, the Howell High School Spanish National Honors Society inducted its first members. You can learn more about each of these below.

During the event, the students took part in several fun activities like throwing baseballs and running the bases. After that, the students used math to find the average distance that they threw the ball and the average time it took them to run the bases. The fair was hosted in partnership with LOC Federal Credit Union and was a great learning opportunity for our students.
