Hosted by the Hartland High School DECA club, the competition was modeled after the popular show Shark Tank were aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their business idea to a panel of judges in the hope of earning funding for their business idea. Alec Pominville and Daniel Zeppa won the competition and $450 in prize money for their Mobile Barber Shop concept. The career fair and competition were open to marketing and entrepreneurship students from all Livingston County Schools.

“Our idea was a mobile barber. People can schedule an appointment for a barber to drive to their house and cut their hair for them. They would have all the supplies with them in the car, including cleaning supplies. We think it is really neat, a time saver and convenient for the busy schedules that people have” explained Zeppa. “It (the competition)  was a lot of fun, I’ve never given a presentation in front of a bunch of adults like that before,” said Pominville.

“What a fantastic feeling to see Danny and Alec take home the top prize! My students all worked hard, together as a class, so it was great to see Alec and Danny take it a step further to the competition. Together they brought energy and passion into their pitch to not just win it for themselves but as representatives of the Howell Entrepreneurship class. Well deserved by two hard-working students,” said Robert Klein, Howell High School business teacher.

The career fair portion of the event allowed students to meet with local entrepreneurs and colleges to discuss various career paths and business options.

DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
