Innovation Academy Students Excel in Square One Education Network Design Competitions

IA students and mentors with their vehicle and trophies 5/25/21 - Students from Innovation Academy recently claimed first place overall in the Square One Education Network’s Full-Scale Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge. For the challenge, students Brady Caylor, Autumn Ellwart, Max Fellows, Jack Hartigan designed and built a full-scale electric vehicle complete with parking sensors. The students pitted their vehicle against several other teams in various performance challenges on Figure 8 and Road Courses. In addition to claiming first place overall, the team also earned the Public Relations Award at the competition.

Students from the school also competed in the Square One Education Network’s Underwater Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge. In this challenge, Trenton Barbour, Brendon Barbour, and Ben Crandall designed and developed a remote-controlled underwater vehicle capable of accomplishing various tasks. The team earned third place overall and the Ambassadorship Award at their competition.

In both challenges, the students demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills as they engineered and built their vehicles. Each vehicle went through various design revisions and testing in preparation for the competitions.
