Hutchings Elementary Third Grade Classes

10/11/19 - On Tuesday, Oct. 8, third-grade students at Hutchings Elementary where shocked when they arrived at school and learned that Chip and Jojo, Mrs. Buckingham’s beloved class guinea pigs had gone missing. With the help of Deputy Schuster and Detective Childers from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, the students established the crime scene and collected evidence to help solve the mystery of the missing class pets. After investigating and compiling all of the clues and evidence, it was determined that the guinea pigs had escaped from their cage and were found in the staff lounge.

The mystery of the missing class pets was planned by Mrs. Buckingham, Mrs. Nelson, and Mrs, Highum to help launch their students into the Mystery Unit of the district’s new English Language Arts curriculum, Units of Study. The goal was to get students excited about solving a real mystery as they prepared to begin reading that genre.
