The Howell Public Schools’ Board of Education has approved the hiring of John Young to serve as the district’s athletic director.

"John will bring a wealth of knowledge of athletics at both the high school and collegiate levels to our athletics department,” said Erin MacGregor, Howell Public Schools superintendent. “I believe he will continue the great things that are already happening in our athletics department and help elevate athletics at Howell Public Schools to the next level.”

“I am excited about joining the Highlander team. Howell Public Schools has strong leadership in Erin McGregor, a vibrant community who support athletics, and first class facilities. Howell is a great place to live and work and most importantly; to raise a family,” said Young. “I would like to thank Mr. McGregor and the board of education for giving me the opportunity to lead such a great program. I look forward to building relationships with our student-athletes, coaches, fans and parents and to continuing the tradition of excellence in the Highlander program.”

Young comes to Howell Public Schools from Westland’s John Glenn High School, where he served as athletic director for five years. Additionally, Young spent five years at Ann Arbor’s Skyline High School where he helped launch and build the athletics program. Young has also coached baseball at the collegiate level at both Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. Young also spent two seasons as a professional baseball player with the Detroit Tiger’s organization.

Young holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts in Education both from the University of Michigan.
