12/21/16 - Howell High School junior Hogan Taylor has been named the first place winner in the 11th-grade category in the 29th annual North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) Poster Contest. Taylor’s poster will be displayed at Cobo Hall during the 2017 NAIAS. Additionally, he will receive a $500 scholarship. This year the contest drew 890 entries from across Michigan.

“The work and creativity displayed by these young people is an exciting window into the future as to the talent the automotive design community may one day be the beneficiary of,” said Sam Slaughter, 2017 NAIAS Chairman. “The winning posters are examples of what this contest is all about: the creative minds of Michigan’s future and a passion for the industry.”

“I wanted to keep my design simple and make it really nice. No one has ever done one with a cover over the top of the car,” said Taylor. “The contest was a lot of fun and a good chance to earn some scholarship money.”

"This is a great accomplishment for Hogan. The NAIAS Poster Contest is very competitive with entries coming from all across Michigan," said John Mozdzierz, Howell High School graphic arts teacher. "This is the third consecutive year that Howell High School has had a student be named a winner in the contest, which speaks to the talent of our students and the quality of our visual arts programs."

The NAIAS Poster Contest was established to engage the creative minds of Michigan’s future artists. The contest is open to all Michigan students in grades 10 through 12. The posters were reviewed and judged by the 2017 NAIAS Chairmen, a General Motors automotive designer, a College for Creative Studies instructor and State Farm Insurance representatives.
