Internships & Job Opportunities

If there's one thread that runs through all of our teaching at Howell Schools, it's that hands-on, real world learning must start at an early age.

That's where business support most comes into play. Our business partnerships provide essential on-the-job experience through internships, co-op placements, and innovative programs.

One such program, Citizens Property Insurance's Backpack-to-Briefcase program, gives 40 students the opportunity to spend the day at its corporate offices, working in different departments to see how their education can lead to a meaningful local job.

The Difference Between Internships and Co-ops

In work-based learning—internships and co-op placements—high school juniors and seniors are paired with a business that provides on-the-job training in line with what students learn in class. Students earn school credit, network with potential employers, and develop valuable job skills.

Internships are usually for one semester or summer, and can be paid or unpaid, depending on the employer. Students often choose to have more than one internship to explore different fields and jobs.

Co-op placements generally last for more than one semester. For example, students might take classes in the fall and then work for their employer in the spring.

Manufacturing Internships

Companies that serve the auto industry have a strong presence in Howell, and they are a major source of internships for students pursuing engineering, manufacturing, and other technical careers.

Precision Stamping offers skilled trades internships to Howell High students, who learn not only industry-specific skills but the business sense it takes to grow from a family-owned company into a worldwide supplier.

In internships at Thai Summit America Corporation, a sheet metal stamping company, students see the entire manufacturing process start to finish—from tool and die design and construction through stamping and assembly.

At C&B Machinery, students work in internship and co-op work placements, gaining experience in custom manufacturing for the auto, aerospace, and oil and gas industries.

We're here to help you design an internship or other short-term job training placement that's a win-win for your company and our students.
