MacGregor's Message 10/14/16

Dear Parents,

Did you know that October is National Principals Month? Howell is very lucky to have the best of the best when it comes to our building principals. Our dedicated principals work tirelessly to create a warm, welcoming and caring school environment where all students feel safe and can achieve their maximum potential. Next time you are at your child’s school, please take a moment to stop in and thank their principal for all that they do.

On Thursday, October 20, I am hosting a Coffee Chat from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at Howell High School’s Highlander Restaurant. This event is free and open to all community members. My hope is that Coffee Chat will open up a new line of communication between the district and community. This will be an open forum to discuss suggestions, questions, ideas or concerns relating to our district. If you can, please consider attending. To learn more or for directions to the Highlander Restaurant, please visit https://goo.gl/yty4Ml.

Last week, Southeast students learned all about fire safety from two Howell Area Fire Department firefighters. On Monday, the district will host a Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative community seminar. On Saturday, October 22, the Howell High School band will have the honor of performing in place of the University of Michigan Hockey Band. You can read about each of these below.

Southeast Students Learn Fire Safety

Recently the Howell Area Fire Department visited Southeast Elementary to teach the school’s begindergarten and kindergarten students about fire safety. Students learned what to do if they hear a smoke detector go off, how to check to see if it is safe to open a door in a fire and about the equipment on a fire truck. Howell Public Schools to Host Michigan CSI Community Seminar

On Monday, October 17, we will host a Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative Community Seminar (Michigan CSI). This is a program of the Michigan Attorney General’s office. The community seminar will provide parents with practical tools including Internet safety tips, understanding the impact of digital footprints, identifying cyber bullying warning signs and more. To learn more about the seminar, please visit https://goo.gl/wlIJD9.

Howell High School Band to Perform at U of M

The Howell High School band has been invited to substitute for the University of Michigan Hockey Band on Saturday, October 22. It is a real honor for our band to receive this invitation. The University of Michigan bands are held in high regard and being invited to step in for them speaks volumes about our instrumental music programs and the talent of our students. You can read more about this honor and learn how to buy tickets to the game at https://goo.gl/leQaMi.
