MacGregor's Message 10/6/17

Dear Parents,

It has been a great week at Howell Public Schools as we celebrated Homecoming 2017. Students and staff alike have shown their Highlander Pride as they participated in Spirit Week and attended the annual Powder Puff Games. The energy and excitement during the high school’s Homecoming Pep Assembly this afternoon was incredible. Tonight at 7 p.m. our Highlanders will take on the Canton Chiefs in the Homecoming Game. During halftime we will name the 2017 Homecoming King and Queen.

October is National Principals Month. Our building principals are absolutely outstanding, and I feel honored to work with them each day. They truly have the best interests of our students in mind with each decision that they make. While I think that we should honor our wonderful principals every day, I would like to ask each of you take a moment to extend your thanks to your child’s principal at some time during the month.

Last Friday, our football team had a big win against Brighton to bring the little brown jug that commemorates the winning team in the annual matchup back to Howell. Last weekend our high school equestrian team claimed the Reserve Championship in its division at regionals. The team will  now compete at the Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association State Finals October 12-15.

During October, Howell High School will participate in Michigan College Month to help our students explore the post-secondary education options available to them. The Highlander Way Middle School student body is holding a 5K to raise money to support those affected by the recent hurricanes. Next Friday, October 13 is our first half day of the school year. I have shared more on each of these items below.

Michigan College Month Returns to HHS

During October, Howell High School will celebrate Michigan College Month. The goal of Michigan College Month is to help students plan for their post-secondary education. Highlander Way Students Plan 5K To Support Hurricane Relief Efforts

In the past six weeks, three hurricanes have made landfall around our country. To help those who have been affected by these natural disasters, the students at Highlander Way Middle School have planned the Hawks Care 5K. Students are collecting donations that will benefit the American Red Cross’ relief efforts. Each grade level has played an important part in planning this event. October 13 Half Day Reminders

Next Friday, October 13 is our first half day of the school year. On that day our high school students will be released at 10:50 a.m., middle school students will be released at 10:51 a.m. and elementary students will be dismissed at 12:05 p.m. Please remember that elementary students in grades kindergarten through third must be met at the bus stop by a parent, guardian or older sibling. To help parents plan for this, we have posted the half day elementary school bus drop off times at https://goo.gl/cV7wEf.
