MacGregor's Message 8/18/17

Dear Parents,

I hope this edition of MacGregor’s Message finds you doing well and enjoying the summer with your family. It is hard to believe that the start of the new school year is just a few weeks away. I know that our teachers, principals and support staff are all excited to welcome back students on Tuesday, September 5. As we enter the 2017/18 school year, we have developed a Back to School webpage to share important updates and information. Please take a few minutes to review the page at https://goo.gl/PY7uuu.

I’d like to extend a big thank you to all of the United Way Day of Caring volunteers who spent time working in our district on Wednesday, August 16. The volunteers helped spruce up several of our buildings ahead of the new school year. As a district, we had more than 300 students and staff members volunteer their time during the Day of Caring.

This summer, 11 Howell High School students visited Puerto Rico on an educational trip. Next Tuesday the Howell High School Construction Trades program will hold an open house to showcase the home built by students during the 2016/2017 school year. Once again, we would like you to share your child’s first day of school photo with us for a Facebook photo album. I have shared more on each of these below.

HHS Puerto Rico Trip

Earlier this summer, 11 Howell High School students traveled to Puerto Rico to learn about the region's rich history and culture. While there, the students were encouraged to practice their Spanish language skills while they enjoyed several activities such as learning how to salsa dance and visiting the Old San Juan area. You can read more about this educational trip at https://goo.gl/eGQggs.

All HPS Buildings Closed Until 12:30 p.m. on 8/30

As a reminder, all of our buildings will be closed until 12:30 p.m on Wednesday, August 30. This will allow our staff to attend a district-wide opening day celebration as well as several professional development sessions.

First Day of School Pictures

Again this year, we would like to invite you to share a photo of your child on the first day of school with us. All of the photos will be posted on the district’s Facebook page in a first day of school photo album. To submit a photo, visit the Howell Public Schools Facebook page at http://goo.gl/PQDg2N, and send us a message with the photo. We have posted some downloadable first day of school signs at https://goo.gl/UfyFxw. Photos will be posted on Tuesday afternoon.
