MacGregor's Message 5/13/2022
Dear Families,

Yesterday, the Howell High School Class of 2022 finished their final day of classes at Howell Public Schools. The Senior walkout always brings mixed emotions, as we are sad to see the seniors go but excited to see where the future takes them. Next Saturday, we will celebrate with the seniors during their Graduation Ceremony. The ceremony will take place at the MSU Breslin Center and will be live streamed. There will be a link on the high school website with all the necessary information.

As our school year is winding down, I would like to ask our families to complete our annual Family Perception Survey. Please complete one survey for each school that you have a child attending. The survey will help us as we continue to improve our district to meet the needs of all of our students. The survey will close on Friday, June 10, at 5 p.m. To complete the survey, please visit https://bit.ly/3N8QTc9.

Howell High School Air Force Junior Air Force ROTC Jaidah Davis has been selected to receive an Air Force Junior ROTC scholarship to attend an eight-week private pilot license training course. The scholarship, valued at $24,000, covers transportation, room and board, academics, and flight hours required to earn a private pilot license. In addition to being selected for the scholarship, Cadet Davis is currently ranked as one of the nation's top eight Air Force JROTC cadets, having been the top cadet in Michigan and the top cadet in a five-state region. We had an incredible initial response to the invitations to this summer's Camp Highlander. The response was so good that all of the sessions are now filled. If your child did not get into Camp Highlander, there are still many summer reading opportunities that the district is planning. The Highlander Reading Express, our mobile library, will be back on the road, running a weekly route to various areas of the district. We will also be hosting Free Book Friday on various Fridays throughout the summer. We will be at a different location during each Free Book Friday, giving away free books. We are also working on planning some special summer pop-up reading events. We will share more information on our summer programs in future editions of MacGregor's Message and building newsletters.

The Salvation Army will again be hosting its Summer Lunch Bunch at locations across our district and county. The Summer Lunch Bunch provides an important source of meals during the summer months. Each Tuesday, the Highlander Reading Express will join the Summer Lunch Bunch at the Brighton Village Mobile Home Park. To view this year's Summer Lunch Bunch flyer with all of the stops listed, please visit https://bit.ly/3PaPnYW.

The Howell Education Foundation is an essential partner of the district. The Howell Education Foundation supports our students and staff in many ways, such as awarding classroom grants, covering the cost of field trips, and providing funding for clubs. One of the largest fundraisers for the Howell Education Foundation is its annual golf outing. This year's Howell Education Foundation Golf Outing will be held on Friday, June 10, at Hunter's Ridge Golf Course. To support the foundation by playing in the outing or as a sponsor, please visit https://bit.ly/3P1Cy2Z.

Sincerely,
Erin J. MacGregor, Ed.S.
