Howell Public Schools District Updates 6/11/20

Dear Families,

As some districts have released drafts of their plans for the fall, I have received many questions about what the fall may look like. It is my hope to open our doors in August and have school be as close to normal as possible. I strongly believe that in-person instruction is the best form of learning. Any deviation would be driven by state requirements that all schools would need to follow. To prepare for possible alternative plans, we have a team planning for scenarios including in-person instruction, online instruction, a hybrid model, and different variations of these. We have also been consulting with our local health department regarding risk-mitigation strategies to keep everyone safe, especially those with compromised immune systems or other health issues. An essential part of our planning will be feedback from our families. On Monday, you will receive a short survey that will help inform our planning process.

Registration Office Reopening June 15

Our Registration Office will be reopening on Monday, June 15. To help maintain a safe environment for our families and staff, the Registration Office will operate on an appointment basis. To make an appointment, please call 517.548.6232. When visiting the Registration Office, we ask that all visitors wear a mask or face covering if they are medically able to. For families who need to submit paperwork  (child's certified birth certificate, immunization records, vision screening results, and proof of residency) to complete the registration process, we have received approval to collect these items electronically. You can submit these by emailing a scanned copy of the paperwork to [email protected]. Online registration remains open for all new students at HowellSchools.com/Enroll.

Next Meal Distribution is June 15

Our next meal kit distribution will be on Monday, June 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the circle drive on the north side of Howell High School. We will also offer delivery to families who lack transportation to pick up meal kits. To request delivery for Monday, June 15, please visit http://bit.ly/2vZoHa2. All requests for delivery will need to be submitted by 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. This will allow our Food Service and Transportation Departments to plan for the deliveries. Additionally, we have been approved to extend our meal kit distribution and delivery through Monday, June 29. I want to thank the Girls Scouts, who made a large donation of Girl Scout Cookies to be included in our meal kits.

Salvation Army Summer Lunch Bunch

The Salvation Army will launch its Summer Lunch Bunch on Monday, June 15. The Salvation Army Summer Lunch Bunch program is a collaborative community meals program that meets all over Livingston County during the summer recess. Through a diverse offering of one-time, daily, and weekly meetings at host’s sites around the county, families are ensured access to plentiful food all summer long.
