MacGreogr's Message 2/3/17

Dear Parents,

There is no doubt in my mind that Howell has the best teachers and support staff around. This was confirmed once again when Mrs. Kelli Falls, Parker Middle School vocal music teacher, was named the 2017 Michigan School Vocal Music Association Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Falls is known for her love of music and dedication to her students. She was selected for this honor by her peers from around the state and received her award last month at the Michigan Music Conference. You can read more about this amazing honor at https://goo.gl/2UDTi0.

Our student-athletes continue to excel this season. Our gymnastics team is currently tied for first place in their division, and last night our boys swim and dive team moved into first in their division. Both our boys and girls bowling teams are currently in second place, and last weekend, Dean Fassero bowled a perfect game in the team's meet against South Lyon. Additionally, five student-athletes recently committed to play at the next level. Joey Gossett and Ryan Brennan both committed for football and Ashley Strong, Emmaly Badgett, and Lauren Yoder each committed for soccer.

The Livingston Educational Service Agency Early Childhood programs (Head Start and Great Start Readiness) are now enrolling for the 2017-2018 school year.  Head Start and Great Start Readiness offer low or no cost programs to income eligible or children “at risk” who qualify under federal and state guidelines. Children of all abilities are encouraged to apply for these programs. For more information, please call (517) 548-2100.

As a reminder, to inform our improvement process we have engaged the services of EPIC-MRA, an established survey research firm, to conduct a survey of our current families. If you have not already, please take a few moments to complete the survey, which can be found at https://goo.gl/JN7qQk. The survey closes on February 5. Thank you in advance for your support.

Last Friday, students at Northwest Elementary created Valentine’s Day cards that have been sent to a U.S. Navy ship. Later this month, Howell High School will host its annual Dual Enrollment and Curriculum Night. The Howell Education Foundation will hold a fundraising gala on February 25 that will directly benefit our students. You can read more about each of these below.

Northwest Elementary Sends Valentines to Navy Ship

Students at Northwest Elementary recently created Valentine’s Day cards and wrote thank you letters to sailors serving on the USS Carl Vinson. The project was planned by the school’s student council as a way to show their appreciation for the sacrifices that members of our armed forces make as they protect our country. Howell High School Dual Enrollment and Curriculum Night

A point of pride for our district is the wide array of course offerings at Howell High School. From the fire academy to the 17 advanced placement courses offered, there truly is something for every student. The school’s annual Dual Enrollment and Curriculum Night, which will be held on February 22, is a great opportunity to learn about all of the courses offered and the various ways that students can earn college credits while still in high school.
