MacGregor's Message 4/18/19

Dear Families

Over the past few months, we have been preparing to launch our new visitor management system, which is funded by the Michigan State Police School Safety Grant that we received last fall. We will begin piloting the system at a few schools in the coming weeks. By testing the system on a small scale, we will be able to address any challenges before rolling out the system to all of our schools next fall. Additionally, we are doing the preliminary work for the installation of our new exterior door access system, which was also included in the grant funds that we received. The bulk of this system will be installed over the summer.

Next weekend, two of our FIRST Robotics teams will compete at the FIRST Robotics World Championship at Cobo Center in Detroit. Team KAOS, one of our middle school FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams, qualified to compete at the event back in December when they took second place in the state at the FTC state championship. Our high school FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team, the S.C.O.T.S. Bots, qualified to compete this past weekend at the FRC state championship where they claimed a Regional Chairman’s Award. I’d like to wish both teams good luck as they represent Howell at the event.

This coming Tuesday I will give my annual State of the District address, and next Friday is the 2019 Senior Survivor Carnival. On May 1, all students are invited to join in a special College Spirit Day as the high school celebrates the post-secondary education choices of the Class of 2019 during Decision Day. I’ve shared more on each of these events below.

District-Wide College Spirit Day

To celebrate Howell High School's third annual Michigan Decision Day, all Howell Public Schools’ students are invited to participate in a College Spirit Day on Wednesday, May 1. Decision Day is a celebration of the Class of 2019's success and their commitment to continuing their education after high school. The event helps foster and promote a college-going culture within our district and engages underclassmen in thinking about their next steps toward their career goals.
