Last week was National Assistant Principals Week, and last Wednesday was National Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. While the roles that these two groups have within the school are quite different, they are both integral to the success of our students. Our outstanding team of assistant principals and student service advisors play an essential role in our school safety planning and drills, have provided leadership for Highlander Virtual, and led several district and school initiatives such as College Month. Our dedicated paraprofessionals support our students and staff in so many ways. They help with small group instruction, adapt and modify classroom materials, and help keep students engaged in their school work. Please join me in thanking both our assistant principals and paraprofessionals for the important role they play in our schools.
On Tuesday, April 19, at 6 p.m., we will host our annual State of the District event. After a two-year break, I am excited to take this opportunity to update district stakeholders on our current initiatives, bond projects, and our vision for the future. This year, following my remarks, we will host a program showcase to highlight several of the high school’s career and technical education programs. As we begin planning for the 2022-2023 school year, we have opened the Highlander Virtual enrollment window. Next year, we will only offer Highlander Virtual to students in grades sixth through twelfth. If you would like to enroll your child in Highlander Virtual for the first time, or if you would like your child to remain in Highlander Virtual for the 2022-2023 school year, please complete the application at https://bit.ly/3uZY9zD. Fundraising to support Senior Survivor is in full swing. This year, many teams are hosting various fundraising events ranging from bake sales to football camps. The Senior Survivor Kick-Off Carnival will be held on Friday, April 22, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Howell High School Field House. The event will feature games, inflatables, face painting, and more. Admission is $10 for ages 3 to 18 and free for adults and children under 2. All the money raised will support Senior Survivor Playground, an inclusive playground for individuals of all abilities.
The Howell High School Performing Arts Department will present its spring musical “Rock of Ages” Thursday, April 21, through Sunday, April 24. “Rock of Ages” is a tribute to the classic rock sounds of the ’80s.
