MacGregor's Message 2/25/2022
Dear Families,

Last week we surprised our Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year with their awards. This year's Teacher of the Year is Mr. Jeffery Klapper, a math teacher at Howell High School. We had 107 nominations for Teacher of the Year, which is over one-fourth of our certified staff. To read more about why Mr. Klapper was selected, please visit https://bit.ly/3rX9b8J. Our Support Person of the Year is Mrs. Donna Pompilius, a paraprofessional at Three Fires Elementary. Mrs. Pompiius rose to the top of a field of 43 candidates. To learn more about why the selection committee chose Mrs. Pompilius, please visit https://bit.ly/35iBLZe. You can watch a video of the surprise award presentations below. Both Mr. Klapper and Mrs. Pompilius will be honored at the March Board of Education meeting. Tuesday was National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. We are lucky to have an incredible team of bus drivers who safely get our students to school each day, mechanics who keep our buses running, and office staff supporting the drivers and developing the bus routes. I truly appreciate all that each of the members of our transportation team does each day,

Registration for begindergarten and kindergarten for the 2022/2023 school year is currently open. Our elementary schools will host a virtual meet and greet for new families on March 9 and offer tours of their schools in June. To learn more about our begindergarten and kindergarten programs or register your child, please visit HowellSchools.com/kdg. If you have any questions, please contact Karen in our district registration office at 517.548.6232.

Effective today, February 25, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is no longer requiring that students wear masks on school buses. This change aligns with the CDC and Michigan Department of Health, and Human Services changes to guidance that no longer recommends masking in schools in areas with low to medium COVID-19 levels within the community. As such, students utilizing school transportation will no longer be required to wear a mask.

The cast and crew of Parker Middle School's production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast are hard at work perfecting their performance. The play will run from Thursday, March 17, through Saturday, March 19. Shows are at 7 p.m. each day, with an additional 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday. There will also be a Red Carpet Gala event on Friday. Red Carpet Gala ticket holders will enjoy a tour of the set and stage, intermission snacks, and hors-d'oeuvres following the show. General admission tickets are $10, and Red Carpet Gala tickets are $45. Both can be purchased at howellperformingarts.ludus.com.

Sincerely,
Erin J. MacGregor, Ed.S.
