Today marks the start of National Principals Month. We are lucky to have an incredible team of educational leaders at the helms of our schools. Every day, our principals have a significant impact on the success of our students. They work tirelessly to ensure that our schools are warm and welcoming learning environments and strive to provide the best education possible to all of our students. Their care for our students extends well beyond the walls of our schools, and they always go the extra mile to meet the needs of our families and community. As instructional leaders, they support our teachers and staff each day. Please join me in thanking and celebrating Mr. Schrock, Mr. LaGalo, Mrs. Poelke, Mrs. Post, Mr. Cherry, Ms. Goodwin, Mr. Moore, Mr. Munro, Ms. Naghtin, and Mr. Starkey for all that they do for our students, staff, families, and community.
On Saturday, October 23, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Highlander Aquatic and Fitness Center will host a fall open house. During the event, admission to the center will be free for all families and community members. The Highlander Aquatic and Fitness Center staff has planned a day full of fun for everyone, including open swim, water and dry land fitness classes, face painting, give-a-ways, and raffles. Discount memberships to the center will also be available for purchase, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., food trucks will be on-site for those who would like to purchase lunch. Be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming Howell High School fall play. The performing arts department will present one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Friday, November 5 through Sunday, November 7, at the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center. Be sure to keep an eye on our website for more information.
With the current transmission and case rates in our county, all of the school districts in our area are dealing with cases of COVID-19, which are resulting in quarantines. We must work together to limit the spread of COVID-19. The Livingston County Health Department strongly recommends that all students and staff wear a face covering while in school. If a student is showing any signs of illness, they must stay home. We often hear, "we thought it was allergies," and "we just thought they had the sniffles." Even if a student only has a runny nose, they should stay home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours or receive a negative COVID-19 test. Please do not chance it and hope for the best. Additionally, if a student or any member of the student's household has been tested for COVID-19, the student should not attend school while those test results are pending. Doing these simple things will help limit the spread of COVID-19 and help keep our students in school.
