District Updates 7/23/20
Dear Families,

We are finalizing the last details of our Return to School plan and expect to share it with you tomorrow afternoon. Our plan is built to meet the requirements of the Return to School Roadmap and uses the feedback from families and staff gathered from our surveys. Our Return to School plan will outline how instruction will be provided in the various stages of the MI Safe Start Plan and what safety precautions will be taken to help our students and staff remain safe when at school.

Highlander Reading Express Will Be Out Tuesday
On Tuesday, July, 28 Deputy Lockhart and Mrs. Rossetter will have the Highlander Reading Express at the Freshman Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We still have several books that we received from a grant, that they will be giving away. This is the same selection of books that we had last week. However, we wanted to provide an opportunity for those interested to stop by and select another book. The Reading Express will be parked on the west side of the Freshman Campus.

Registration Open for Kid’s Kare
Our Early Childhood Education Department is now accepting registrations for Kid’s Kare for the 2020-21 school year. Kid’s Kare is our before and after school childcare program that runs in each elementary school. To register your child for Kid’s Kare, please visit https://bit.ly/2OxeIhD. Completing the registration form does not guarantee your child a spot in the program, but is the first step in the enrollment process. Once you complete the registration form someone from the Early Childhood Education Department will be in contact with you.

Summer Lunch Bunch
Next week is the last week for the Salvation Army’s Summer Lunch Bunch. The Summer Lunch Bunch offers meals and pantry packs to those in need through Friday, July 31. Pantry Packs are filled with boxed and canned, shelf-stable groceries that can help the families build a menu of lunches for the upcoming week. In addition, fresh fruits and vegetables are introduced into Pantry Packs as funds and donations allow. To learn more about the Summer Lunch Bunch, please visit https://bit.ly/3dTCgbB.

Howell’s time slot is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Livingston ESA Education Center at 1425 W Grand River Ave. in Howell. Salvation Army Stuff the Bus
On Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, the Salvation Army will host its annual Stuff the Bus event at the Howell and Fowlerville Wal-Mart locations. On those days, they will have volunteers at both sites collecting donations of school supplies to support local families in need. Additionally, the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help at the event. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit https://bit.ly/3eUuWfm.

Weekly Bond Update
This week our contractors began installing the new seating in the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center at Howell High School and started laying the blocks for the new press boxes, restrooms, and concession stands at the baseball/softball complex. At Parker Middle School, the steel frame for the new entryway canopy has started, and around the district, new flooring continues to be installed. You can view this week’s full update at https://bit.ly/3hymXXp.

Middle and High School Orientation Update
Our middle schools and high school are planning to move forward with their scheduled orientation dates. However, the orientation times may be adjusted to allow for smaller groups to be onsite at one time. Any changes to the schedule will be shared with families in both my updates and in updates from the buildings.

Updating Student Information In PowerSchool
As we begin to prepare for the 2020-21 school year, please take a moment to review your child’s information in the PowerSchool Parent Portal and make any updates that are needed. You can find directions on how to do this at https://bit.ly/2OchZTy.
