Howell Public Schools assesses student achievement and needs in designated subject areas to determine the progress of students and to assist them in attaining District goals.
The following documents are designed to guide and communicate to its stakeholders the district assessments.

District Assessments for Universal Screening and Progress Monitoring
These and other assessments are used for periodic bench marking with At-Risk, Title I and students with disabilities to show incremental progress.
- DIBELS (Reading fluency) Grades K-2
- Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Testing K-10
- F.A.S.T. (Reading fluency) Grades K-5
- Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) (Reading) Grades 3-11
- Scholastic Math Inventory (SMI) Grades 3-5 for select students
District K-12 Common Assessments
All schools administer district common assessments in English, math, science and social studies. These are given on either a quarterly or semester basis depending on the subject and grade level. Common Assessments are given within a two week testing window at the end of the quarter/semester and may be used for a grade at the teacher's discretion. Parents may learn more about their child's specific assessments by speaking to their child's teacher(s).
HPS staff strictly follow the MDE Assessment Integrity Guideline as protocols for administering all state assessments, which include:
